Crusader Against Adversity:
|
The Sant Nirankari Mission lost one of its ardent devotees, a dedicated Pracharak and an able administrator, when Rev. B. S. Nim, a Member of the Executive Committee of the Sant Nirankari Mandal breathed his last on Wednesday, August 2, 2000. He was Member Incharge General Administration. As His Holiness Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj proclaims, it is not the two banks but the water that flows in-between which is important. The truth stands exactly upheld by the 76 year-long sojourn of Rev. B.S. Nim in this world. He proved that it is not the birth or the death but the life in-between that is significant. Despite an utterly modest beginning, Rev. Nim struggled through a chequered career to establish that no adversity of circumstances can stop a hardworking, honest and God-fearing person from attaining the heights of life. Rev. Nim can easily be described as a success story of a crusade against adversity. Rev. Nim was born on January 4, 1924 in Sikandrabad, district Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh in a poor farmer family. He lost his mother when he was a small child of three years. His grandmother, therefore, brought him up. At times, when she would be away or suffering from some health problem, the child B.S. Nim had to cook the food for himself and his father working in the fields. He was, however, a brilliant student at school. He passed his High School from the Uttar Pradesh Board of High School and Intermediate Education, Allahabad in 1942, topping the list of successful candidates. This attracted the attention of some British gentlemen, who came all the way to Sikandrabad to persuade B.S. Nim to join the Saint John College in Agra. He graduated from here in 1946. Although he Nim passed the examination with good second division, he did not pursue his studies further. Instead, he wanted to help the family by joining some service. As a brilliant young man, it was not very difficult for B.S. Nim to search for a job. He appeared in the Assistant Grade Examination and passed it in the first attempt. Consequently, he was appointed as Assistant in the Ministry of Finance, Government of India. Subsequently, he served the Ministry of Home Affairs also. In service, he rose through the ranks by sheer dint of his ability, proficiency and hard work. He retired in January 1982, when he was holding the office of a Director in the Ministry of Finance. Rev. Nim joined the Mission in 1965 in Delhi. Interestingly, it was his wife Champa Devi, who persuaded him to accompany her to the weekly congregation in the Satsang Bhawan, Sant Nirankari Colony to be addressed by Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji. Rev. Nim did not lose time in making up his mind and received Brahm Gyan the same day. From the very next year i.e. 1966, he was made a Pracharak and Mukhi incharge of the Moti Bagh Branch of the Mission. He impressed one and all by his humility coupled with a deep sense of faith and devotion. Rev. Nim organized and addressed the Sangats in Moti Bagh regularly. He also attended the weekly Sangats in Sant Nirankari Colony without fail. He received lot of love and blessings from Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji. During Samagams also he would be assigned one responsibility or the other. Rev. Nim would do the Sewa with full sense of devotion and dedication. The Mission took full advantage of the vast experience and administrative ability of Rev. Nim. He was associated with Accounts Department from 1996 upto March 2000 where he was instrumental in streamlining the working of Accounts and suggest several improvements. Along with other responsibilities, Rev. B.S. Nim was made Chairman, Managing Committee, Niranakri Baba Gurbachan Singh Memorial College, Sohna (Gurgaon) in July 1983. He held this responsibility till the last breath of his life. Shri Nim will always be remembered for his outstanding contribution to the College, particularly the Library Building, Computer Application Course, Tours and Travel Management Course and the Sales Promotion Course. Another glorious part of Rev. Nim's career is that he took every care to see that his children come up well and settle well. He provided good education to all his children- three sons and two daughters. No wonder, all of them have already risen to respectable positions. |
