Rev. Amrik Singh Ji was born
on 16th October 1932 at Lahore (Pakistan) in the family of Shri Pritam
Singh (father) and Smt. Darshan Kaur (mother). The parents belonged to
lower-middle class family, who had faith in great Gurus and the Sikh
traditions. Shri Pritam Singh had four sons and four daughters, Rev.
Amrik Singh being the eldest. He had deep religious background and keen
desire to meet the Great Gurus and become a Gursikh.
Rev. Amrik Singh had love
for Gurbani and respect for the elders and the saints. From the teen
age, he thought of going along with the saints to recite Kirtan. For
realization of God, he was inclined even to renounce the family life. In
the meantime he did his Matriculation from Government High School,
Baghbanpura, Lahore in March 1947. The family migrated to India due to
partition of the country.
With the guidance and
motivation of Shri D.S. Shauq of Shimla , Rev. Amrik Singh Ji met Baba
Avtar Singh Ji, in Paharganj, Delhi and received Divine-Knowledge (Brahm
Gyan) from him on 11th February, 1951. He found that the revelation of
God to him by Shahenshah Ji was absolutely true according to what was
enshrined in Adi Granth and other scriptures. So he was prompted to tell
this Truth to everybody, his kith and kin, friends and other seekers of
God-knowledge.
Rev. Amrik Singh Ji took up
further studies privately and after doing Honors in Punjabi, he
completed his BA in1952 and got employed in Punjab Secretariat. With the
blessings of Baba Avtar Singh Ji , he appeared in the P.C.S. Competitive
Examination in July, 1954 and got selected on merit in his first
attempt. While in service, he continued his studies and passed LL.B in
1966 and later MA (Public Administration) also. This shows his love for
higher education and keenness to improve his qualifications.
As a humble devotee, Rev.
Amrik Singh Ji continued doing Satsang, Simran and Sewa as per
commandment of the Satguru and got peace, bliss and prosperity at the
divine door. In 1970, Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji was pleased to authorize
him to impart Brahm Gyan to the aspirants. Again as a result of
Satguru's continued blessings, he got promotion to I.A.S. of 1973 batch.
After retirement in October 1990, he devoted his services to the Mission
on whole-time basis.
Rev. Amrik Singh Ji has one
son and two daughters. His spouse Smt. Gurmeet Kaur has been moving
about with him shoulder-to-shoulder for spreading the message of Truth
to the people in different parts of the country and even abroad. She is
a Gyan Parcharak and an eloquent speaker and goes out for addressing
Ladies Sangat, besides her onerous responsibilities as Chairperson CMC
Member Incharge of Sant Nirankari Public School, Avtar Enclave, New
Delhi.
Rev. Amrik Singh Ji has an
intense love for literary pursuits. He made useful contribution to
enrich the English Literature of the Mission. Besides producing small
booklets in English - Message to Man, Discovery of God, Mission and the
Message, Unique Mission etc., he also translated Sampuran Avtar Bani in
English in prose. The book entitled “The Matchless Mission” gives an
elaborate description of Nirankari Mission in all its facets in an
impressive manner. Another contribution of his to the Mission's
literature is the book entitled Pehchan in Hindi, which was published at
the initiative of his worthy son Kanwaljit.
Pleased with deep devotion
and selfless service, Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj nominated him as
Member of the Executive Committee on 18-03-1985. He has been serving in
Social Welfare department, Parchar Vibhag and as Secretary,
Administration of Branches. His life has been a living example of love
and devotion for the True Master and service to the mankind. Leaving
aside all other preoccupations, he has always preferred to serve the
Mission and the Lord Master as “There is no greater religion than
beholding God face to face; and there is no act saner than rendering
service to the Saints”
Rev. Amrik Singh Ji was
