As on May 1, 2008
Rev Paramjit Singh
Ahluwalia is a Member of the Executive Committee and has been
holding the charge of Resource Mobilization since May, 2007.
Earlier, he was Additional Member Incharge Education (Aided
Institutions) since April, 2005.
Paramjit Singh Ahluwalia
was born on November 1, 1926 in village Fattehwal, Tehsil Ajnala,
District Amritsar (Punjab). His father, Sardar Harnam Singh
Ahluwalia was from a Sikh family and his mother Smt. Parvati (Mrs.
Sartaj Kaur after marriage) was from a Hindu family. Sardar Harnam
Singh Alhuwalia was determined to give good education to his five
sons including Parmjit Singh.
Paramjit Singh completed
his primary education from the village School and thereafter passed
the Matriculation Examination from Govt. High School, Ajnala, from
Panjab University Lahore, in 1942.
Paramjit Singh’s maternal uncle was employed in the North Western
Railway in Karachi and being very affectionate to his sister, helped
her in making arrangements for Paramjit Singh’s further studies in
Karachi. Paramjit Singh, taking advantage of the facilities,
completed his Intermediate with Science and then Advance Diploma in
Civil Engineering from Karachi. He also finished his Private
Coaching for Graduation in the meanwhile.
Those were the days of
Second World War and Paramjit Singh had the opportunity of getting
field experience in the Civil Engineering in the projects of
"Construction of Low Gunnery School" and "High Gunnery School" of
Royal Indian Navy under the Management of Military Engineering
Services in Manora Island of Karachi. He also completed his
Administrative training, in "Men & Material Management and Office
Work" from there. During his stay in Karachi Paramjit Singh
obtained studentship of AMIE (India) and completed his coaching for
Section ‘A’ and Section ‘B’ from BIET, with particular emphasis on
applied Mechanics, Higher Mathematics and Structural Engineering.
In early 1947 Paramjit
Singh shifted to Lahore, the Capital of undivided Punjab, where his
eldest brother, Sardar Jagjit Singh, was working as Sub Divisional
Officer in the MES. Those were the days of turmoil as the Nation
was readying itself to achieve independence, which was ultimately
achieved, but with a great price, as the country was partitioned.
Paramjit Singh shifted to Amritsar and worked as "Military Estates
Overseer" for a short period and then shifted to Delhi where his
second eldest brother, was working in the Railways. Finally,
Paramjit Singh was able to get a break-through in the North Eastern
Railway at Izat Nagar (near Bareilly) where his cousin was working
as Assistant Engineer. His cousin, O. Yashpaul helped him in
getting him posted as Inspector of Works (Trainee) in 1949.
In 1950, P.S. Ahluwalia
was selected as Inspector of Works, in the Order of Merit No. 1,
through "Open Competitive Examination" of "Railway Service
Commission, Allahabad" and was then appointed & posted as such in
the North Eastern Railway at Gorakhpur.
In 1955, Paramjit Singh
was married in the family of Sardar Gulzar Singh Jaspal and Smt.
Harjit Kaur Jaspal of Kapurthala. His wife Smt. Nirmaljit Kaur
Ahluwalia was the only daughter to her parents with four brothers.
She was bestowed with Gyan before Paramjit Singh got married to her.
In 1955, itself P.S.
Ahluwalia, got promoted in the next Selection Grade by achieving
"Merit Position No. 1" in the selection held by the Railway
Authorities.
Mrs. Harjit Kaur, the
mother-in-law of P.S. Ahluwalia was a great source of inspiration
for him after his marriage and thus he regularly attended all the
Annual Sant Samagams at Delhi till 1962. He was finally blessed
with Divine Knowledge in the Samagam in 1962. By now P.S.
Ahluwalia, had two daughters who were studying in the "Convent
School of Indian Railways" at Jharipani, Mussoorie. So he got an
opportunity to be at the holy feet of the Satguru Baba Avtar Singh
Ji Maharaj at Mussoorie and brief him that he was bestowed with
Divine Knowledge, but being posted at Muzaffarpur (Bihar), he is
unable to avail Satsang and begged of Satguru for a posting where
Satsang is available.
His prayer was
answered. In 1963, on return from leave P.S. Ahluwalia was posted
at Lucknow. Rev Dr. Partap Singh Kanwal, a Mahapursha of repute who
had complete knowledge of Gurbani, Geeta and Holy Quran, was
available there. Under the Divine Cover and the Blessings of
Satguru Baba Ji received through Rev Dr. Partap Singh Kanwal, a lot
of change took place in Paramjit Singh which gave him soothing
results in his day to day life. The posting in Lucknow proved a
boon, as during his stay at there, he cleared two Departmental
tests, one for the post of Chief Inspector of Works and the other
for the post of Assistant Engineer. As a result he was promoted as
Chief Inspector of Works in 1963 and placed on the panel of
Assistant Engineers and promoted to that position in 1965.
In 1966, P.S. Ahluwalia had the privilege of undergoing Advance
Training in the "Indian Railways Track Engineering" from the
"Permanent Way Engineering College of Indian Railways, Pune" and
successfully completed the same. On return from this training he
had an opportunity of seeking audience with His Holiness Satguru
Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji Maharaj and he begged of him to be posted
where Satsang may be available. This time P.S. Ahluwalia had some
different experience to undergo as he was posted at Sonepur, Bihar
(known for having the longest Railway Platform in the world), where
there was no Satsang.
One day, on a Sunday,
P.S. Ahluwalia, conversed with Satguru Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji
through Nirankar and asked Him and wondered as to how is it that he
has been posted at a place where there is no Satsang available
anywhere around. The end result was encouraging. Within one week
P.S. Ahluwalia, received a letter from Patna, from Rev. Dr. Attar
Singh Ji, saying that as per the commandment of Satguru Baba Ji, he
has been directed to shift from Ludhiana to Patna to spread the
message of truth and that regular Satsang has been started in Patna
and he invited P.S. Ahluwalia to attend the same. This was done by
him and Rev. Dr. Attar Singh Ji, desired to visit Sonepur on the
next Wednesday and this he did. The same day he declared that
Satsang would be held at Shri Ahluwalia's place every Wednesday from
8.00 p.m. to 10.00 p.m. Accordingly regular Satsang was started
in the official residence of P.S. Ahluwalia, which continued for one
year i.e. so long as he remained posted in Sonepur. P.S. Ahluwalia
was blessed with a daughter on a Wednesday at the time when Satsang
was going on.
In 1968-69, P.S.
Ahluwalia, was detailed for an Advance Training in Administrative
System in "Indian Railways Staff College, Baroda". He completed this
training successfully and on his return he was posted to Izat Nagar,
North Eastern Railway. Though there was regular Satsang at
Bareilly, about 5 K.M. away from Izat Nagar, but it was considered
desirable by P.S. Ahluwalia that another centre should be opened in
Izat Nagar itself so that Railway staff there could avail of the
Satsang at Izat Nagar itself. This was done in consultation with
the Mukhi of Bareilly and thus a new branch was set up. P.S.
Ahluwalia, remained there for two years and availed the bliss of
Satguru.
Thereafter, P.S.
Ahluwalia was transferred from North-Eastern Railway to Northern
Railway and posted at Bikaner. He remained there from 1971 to
1974. He was specially lucky that during his stay at Bikaner, His
Holiness Satguru Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji paid his first visit to
Bikaner. The Parmukh of Bikaner (Dr. G.M. Saxena) was very kind to
Ahluwalia family as with his approval, His Holiness along with Rev.
Rajmata Ji showered their blessings in the Railway official bungalow
provided to P.S. Ahluwalia. It was a miracle that when His
Holiness's programme of visit was conveyed, the officer living in
the immediate neighbourhood was transferred out and his bungalow
fell vacant for a short while. The saints who accompanied His
Holiness were accommodated in that bungalow. So the first ever
Samagam in Bikaner was held on the green lawns of Ahluwalia's
bungalow. Thus, Ahluwalia and his family received blessings of the
Satguru to the utmost extent.
During his stay in
Bikaner, apart from his spiritual responsibilities, P.S. Ahluwalia
was entrusted with maintaining the Railway Track and Buildings in
his jurisdiction. There were two special occasions when his
services were greatly appreciated. One was during the Railway
Strike in 1974 when almost all the Railway Trains came to a halt but
for the portion of the Indian Railways track for which
responsibility was entrusted to P.S. Ahluwalia. Similarly, on
another occasion the train services came to a grinding halt between
Bikaner and Suratgarh due to heavy sand storm. P.S. Ahluwalia made
sure that the train services were restored within seven days. For
this outstanding performance of P.S. Ahluwalia, his services were
greatly appreciated by the Divisional Railway Manager, General
Manager, Northern Railway and the Chairman Railway Board. But
Ahluwalia remained steadfastly thankful to the Satguru with whose
blessings all these achievements were possible.
By the end of 1974 P.S.
Ahluwalia, was transferred and posted to Ghaziabad (U.P.) to look
after the challenging portion of the Railway Track between Delhi and
Ghaziabad, New Delhi and Ghaziabad, a big Railway Yard at
Tughlakabad and Track between Ghaziabad and Saharanpur. His
services were greatly appreciated for improving the Track
Maintenance to the highest standards ever for achieving the very
smooth and comfortable running of the trains on the track under his
jurisdiction.
In 1977, P.S. Ahluwalia,
was posted in Ambala where due to heavy floods in the area in 1978,
the train services came to a halt. A portion of the Railway Track
was washed away. Here again within the shortest period the train
services were restored and P.S. Ahluwalia, was given a cash award by
the General Manager Northern Railway and he was elevated to the rank
of Divisional Engineer and awarded the title of I.R.S.E. and he was
posted at Moradabad. Thereafter he was finally posted at Ferozepur.
Here he retired as Senior Divisional Engineer (Senior Class I, in
Gazetted Rank, I.R.S.E.). He had the privilege of availing regular
Satsang at Ambala as well as Ferozepur. He too had the privilege of
attending Satsang in Ludhiana and Jalandhar which were part of his
official jurisdiction. During his posting in Ferozepur the running
of track between Ludhiana and Jalandhar was adjudged the best ever
for which appreciation was recorded by the General Manager Northern
Railway.
In 1984, P.S. Ahluwalia
retired and shifted to Delhi where he had already built a small
house on ground floor. He added first floor and partly second
floor. All the children were settled by 1988 and P.S. Ahluwalia,
worked as Consultant to a Construction Firm for two years and then
as a Consultant to an American Firm (connected with the Indian
Railways) for about four years.
In 1994, P.S. Ahluwalia,
finally decided to devote his entire time and energy in the service
of His Holiness Satguru Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj and he started
Sewa in the Accounts Department. His Holiness was kind to him and
he was awarded Sewa of Mukhi of Model Town, Branch (which P.S.
Ahluwalia, established with the help of other Mahapurushas). Baba
Ji was further kind to him and he was blessed and given permission
to impart God Knowledge (Gyan). His Holiness was further pleased to
nominate P.S. Ahluwalia, as Member of the Managing Committee of Sant
Nirankari Boys Sr. Sec. School, Nirankari Colony, Delhi.
In 2001, P.S. Ahluwalia
was nominated as Chairman/President of the Governing Body of
N.B.G.S.M. College, Sohna (the college of Sant Nirankari Mission).
He remained as President for two terms i.e. 2001-04 & 2004-07. He
became a Member of the All India Working Committee in April, 2005.
Simultaneously His Holiness nominated him as Executive Committee
Member and posted as Addl. Member Incharge of Higher Education.
From May, 2007 he has been holding the responsibility of Member
Incharge, Resource Mobilization.
May Satguru bless P.S.
Ahluwalia with more strength and ability to serve the Mission and
earn the blessings from Baba Ji and fellow devotees.
