As on May 1, 2008
Rev Sunder Lal Khurana
was born on May 13,1945 in Lyallpur (now in Pakistan) in the family
of Rev Kanshi Ram Khurana and Rev Krishna Wanti Khurana. During
Partition of India in 1947, the family migrated to Delhi and along
with two other refugee families occupied a deserted Masjid (Mosque)
in Subzi Mandi area. They had left everything in Pakistan and
entered in India empty handed. Naturally, they had to pass through
a very hard time. One can imagine the condition of the family from
the fact that child Sunder Lal had to go selling bread, biscuits,
vegetables and balloons, etc. before he would go to his second shift
government school.
Rev Kanshi Ram Ji
started a small unit for book binding in Bara Hindu Rao in 1948.
This, however, gave him a very meager income. In 1955, the family
vacated Masjid and shifted to JJ Colony near Clock Tower. In 1965,
they were allotted refugee accommodation in Andha Mughal (now Pratap
Nagar) in North Delhi. In 1974, Rev Sunder Lal Khurana lost his
father who had been suffering from a serious mental disease since
1966.
As regards education,
Rev Khurana passed Higher Secondary Examination in 1962. In 1965 he
did his B.A. from Delhi University and passed M.A. (Economics) from
Meerut University in 1970.
Immediately after his
Matriculation, Rev Sunder Lal Khurana applied for the post of a
Clerk in Delhi Electricity Supply Undertaking (DESU). Even though
he was under-age for the post, he got it with the benign blessings
of Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji. The authorities selected him for his
brilliant performance but recorded that he would join the post only
when he attains the required minimum age of 18. This was, of
course, a big help for the poor family.
Rev Sunder Lal Khurana
got promotion and became a Stenographer in DESU in 1968. In 1969,
however, he left DESU to join as PA to Principal, KM College,
Delhi. From here too he shifted to Deshbandhu College, Kalkaji in
the same capacity. In 1971, he was selected as a Stenographer in
the Punjab National Bank. This finally gave Rev Khurana a secure
and regular career. In 1972, he was married to Smt. Prem Lata Ji.
She was working in the State Bank of India. She is a gentle,
cooperative and sincere person. With her joining the family
received a better economic status. In Punjab National Bank, Rev
Sunder Lal Khurana became Assistant Manager in 1977 and in 1984 he
was promoted as Manager.
Rev Khurana was
connected with the Mission right from his childhood. His father
received Brahm Gyan from Shahenshah Baba Avtar Singh Ji in 1948. Shahenshah
Ji often visited his book binding shop in Bara Hindu Rao. When they
shifted to Andha Mughal in 1965, the family received an additional
advantage of the company of the saints like Rev Puran Prakash ‘Saqi’,
Rev ‘Nirmal’ Joshi, Rev J.S. Shant, Rev K.L. Johar and Rev J.S.
Kamal. Once Rev Kanshi Ram Khurana attended the congregation in
Paharganj despite torrential rain. Shahenshah Baba Avtar Singh Ji
blessed all those who had come for the congregation that they would
face no dearth of anything in their lives. Rev S.L. Khurana
believes that all the progress that he made was the outcome of this
benign blessing of the True Master to his father.
Rev S.L. Khurana himself
received Brahm Gyan in 1963 from Satguru Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji.
As mentioned above, it was in 1963 that he got the post of Clerk in
DESU with his divine blessings. Even being under-age, he had
applied after receiving blessings from Baba Ji. Rev Prem Lata Ji
also received Brahm Gyan immediately after their marriage in 1972
from Bhagat Kotumal Ji. Spiritual enlightenment made her all the
more pious and kind hearted and they made an ideal couple, attended
congregations and participated in the Mission’s activities shoulder
to shoulder with each other.
Rev Khurana constructed
his own house in Pitampura in 1980-81 and arranged the first Sangat
there in 1982. Rev Nirankari Rajmata Ji graced the congregation and
blessed the family. Simultaneously, Rajmata Ji advised the family
to hold Sangat at their house regularly. Rev Khurana who was given
the Sewa of Mukhi, Pitampura the same year became more active. He
started arranging Sangats in the open areas in and around Pitampura,
Rohini, Budh Vihar, Vijay Vihar, Rithala etc.
As the Prachar of the
Mission started increasing in the area, many Sector/Zonal level
Samagams were held where His Holiness Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj
blessed the devotees. In 1987 Rev Khurana was blessed with the Sewa
of Gyan Pracharak and again in the year 2000, he was given the Sewa
of Parmukh/Sector Incharge Pitampura. Simultaneously, Rev Khurana
was rendering his Sewa as a Member of the Liaison Committee, Library
Committee and Finance and Accounts Committee. He was also
associated with the sale of Publication material of the Mission.
In 2001, both Rev
Khurana and his wife sought voluntary retirement from their Banks
and started devoting their full time in the Sangats and for
spreading the Mission’s message to the people.
In April 2006, Rev
Khurana was suddenly called to attend the Working Committee Meeting
as a Special Invitee where he was made its regular Member.
Simultaneously, he was nominated as a Member of the Executive
Committee and assigned the Sewa of Additional Member Incharge
Finance and Accounts with effect from May 1, 2006. He continues to
hold this charge till date.
All the members of Rev
Khurana’s family are staunch devotees of the Mission. They include
his brothers - Rev B.L. Khurana working at present as Chief Manager,
Bank of Baroda, Madi Gobindgarh in Punjab and Rev Gulshan Khurana
posted as Section Officer at Naval Headquarters in Delhi. His
sister Rev Maya Arora’s family also is connected with the Mission.
Rev Khurana has two
daughters – Vanita Kapoor and Pooja Chaudhary, both happily settled
in Delhi. Their families also are devotees of the Mission.
Rev S.L. Khurana is
known for his politeness and the spirit of devotion towards the
Mission. May His Holiness Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj bless him
and his family so that they continue to serve the Mission and fellow
devotees with best of their health, zeal and dedication.
