SALVATION TOUR BY HIS HOLINESS
BABA HARDEV SINGH JI MAHARAJ
June
22, 2008
(Uttara Khand, Mussoorie)

On June 22, 2008, His Holiness addressed a thickly attended congregation at the Sant Nirankari Satsang Bhawan.  Nature seemed to be at its best.  The snow-clad hills in the back of floating clouds and the cool breeze made everybody feel pleasant.  Spirituality added its own fragrance to the environment.  Besides devotees of the Mission assembled from various parts of the State and its surrounding areas, several dignitaries and other citizens of the town were also present.  They included Shri O.P. Uniyal, Chairman of the Municipal Corporation.  He was full of praise for the Zonal Incharge Rev. Harbhajan Singh Ji and other devotees of the Mission for their active participation in the social welfare activities in Mussoorie.

Blessing the gathering, His Holiness Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj said: “The importance of human life lies in adopting the path of Truth and devotion to God.  Saints remain overwhelmed with spirituality all the time.  Whatever the circumstances, they stay linked with the Supreme Source of all virtues (God).  They would not like to turn their face from God because they realise that their minds remain safeguarded from negative thoughts and feelings so long as they are united with the Almighty.

Devotion to God is a subject of Mind.  Mere bowing the head is not sufficient, one must submit the mind also.  That is what the saints do.  They realize the presence of the Almighty all the time in all circumstances.  This is the way the devotees rise above duality and attain the state of harmony (Sehaj).  They rise above pain and pleasure, rich and poor and treat everyone equably.

Devotees stay in the material world just like the lotus stays in water.  They do not get influenced by the worldly objects.  They concentrate on the Almighty Nirankar.  they abstain from the sense of doership.  It is with this spirit that they do Satsang, Sewa and Simran.  People in the world are either too much attached with it or renounce it completely.  But saints adopt the middle path.  They live in the state of detached attachment.  A pedestrian is bound to stumble if he looks at the sky or right in his feet while walking.  He can walk properly only if he looks straight.  By doing this he can see the sky and the earth at the same time without getting stumbled.  The devotees adopt the same principle in their lives.  While linked with God, their mind remains pure without getting influenced by negative feelings of jealousy, hatred, ill-will and animosity.

The beauty of our mind lies in tolerance.  We must be broad-minded and large-hearted so that our mind does not get influenced by negative feelings.  Our mind is like a horse.  If we hold the bridle in our own hands, we can turn the horse this way or that way.  Otherwise, it may go astray.  Similarly, our mind needs to be controlled so that it does not cause any harm.  The realization of God serves as a check.  It safeguards the mind from going astray and causing harm.  If the mind is not controlled,  it may cause the misuse of every object.  And it is the man who suffers ultimately.  He fails to achieve salvation.

Saints and sages, therefore, advise man to keep this light of divinity lit in the mind all the time.  This will remove the darkness of the mind.  So long as the light is there, the darkness will keep away.  Otherwise, as soon as the light goes off, the darkness comes in.  As a matter of fact, darkness always remains there, it only waits for the light to go off.  That is why man is advised to remain linked with God all the time.  A fish survives only so long as it stays linked with water.  That is why man is advised to remember God all the time.

A devotee who attains this state of mind, becomes the beloved one of the True Master.  It is for such a disciple that it is said that the True Master is prepared to offer his skin for making shoes for him.  So the devotion undertaken with the mind that is linked with God all the time is indeed unique.  Each and every moment of the life of such a devotee stands rewarded.  Human life which is compared with diamond, gets really valued as a diamond in his case.  He gets to know how to remain devoted to God even while living in the material world.  The bird Chatak is anxious only to get the rare drop of rain called Swati.  It does not bother about the entire ocean of water.   Similarly, a devotee does not go after the material world.  He is anxious only to be linked with God or to be in the company of his True Master.”
