SATSANG PROGRAMME IN THE DIVINE PRESENCE OF
HIS HOLINESS
BABA HARDEV SINGH JI MAHARAJ
Delhi, Ground No. 8, August 17, 2008
A huge congregation was held in Delhi on Sunday, August 17, 2008 in the presence of His Holiness Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj, his holy mother Rev Nirankari Rajmata Kulwant Kaur Ji and his esteemed spouse Pujya Mata Sawinder Ji. Several speakers, poets and singers participated in the congregation and highlighted the various aspects of the Mission’s ideology based on Truth, love and peace through spiritual enlightenment. Addressing the gathering, His Holiness said:
“Saints always inspire others to get united with God and imbibe such feelings that may provide strength to the world – the feelings that humanity needs today the most. They do not confine themselves to prayers, but adopt these feelings in their practical life. The people of the world carry the feelings of passion and greed and are generally harsh in their attitude. They fill the whole atmosphere with poison. They lack tolerance. Saints, however, seek to change this negative attitude into positive.
Sometimes it happens that someone follows the positive path but suddenly turns towards the negative. What we need is sustainability. We must be steadfast in our positive outlook. We must endeavour to improve things without bringing their level down. Negativity spoils happiness. Sometimes we complain that we are not able to derive the same bliss from Simran as we did in the past. Obviously, the reason is that in the past we used to concentrate on the Almighty Nirankar and treat the material world as a mere means to live, whereas now it is the reverse. Since we concentrate on the material world, where will the bliss spring from? Pearls will be available only to the one who dives deep into the ocean and not to those who stand on the bank or stay on the surface. Let us ponder whether we pay attention towards Nirankar with the same intensity as we possess for the material world. That is why our life does not improve. We can realize it if we analyze our lives.
We often interpret things in our own selfish way. For example, a drunken man struck against a Sadhu – an ascetic wearing saffron clothes. The Sadhu became angry and said that he would give him Shrap (curse). The drunken man said: Let me bring a glass and then you can give me Sharab (wine). It means man listens to what suits his habits.
Saints, on the other hand, listen to the words that are valuable, ignoring the rest. In fact, they turn the negative also into positive. It is in the nature of saints that they look at virtues and ignore the other side. They remain centred on good qualities of others. This saves them from criticizing or speaking ill of others. Suppose, someone covers a long distance of 100 kms. and then stumbles, we generally ignore the long journey and highlight his stumbling only. Had we concentrated on his achievement, we would have derived happiness. Criticism gives us tension only. We must, therefore, look for virtues. We pick up gold even if it is lying in a dirty drain. We must, therefore, pay attention towards the good qualities only. But we have developed an attitude where we consider that God has created us only to have an eye on the style of living of others. Naturally, we forget our own gait while watching the others.
Saints do not indulge in the criticism of others. That is why they stay blissful. Those who criticize others consider themselves to be perfect. Saints, on the other hand, consider that they have still to learn a lot. Let us remember that the one who considers himself as perfect, it means his backward journey has begun. There is a set back in his outlook. He loses the glow from his face which is the mirror of his thinking. The tendency of criticizing others causes the divine glow and bliss to disappear.
It is said:
Gursikh Gur Di Akh Nal Vekhe
Gur De Kan Nal Sunada Ey,
Gursikh Gyan Sarovar Vichon Hire Moti Chunada Ey.
It means if you look at others with the eye of the True Master and listen to others with the ears of the True Master, your journey of life takes you forward. We know a line on stone and a line on water. Saints treat love and obedience towards the True Master as a line on stone, while any difference of opinion is a line on water. When we suffer from negativity, our difference of opinion with others becomes a line on stone, while our love and obedience towards the True Masters is like a line on the water. In order to be benefited, we must, therefore, follow the approach of saints. This will bring one virtue after another. Life will render itself better. We must, therefore, always follow the path adopted by saints.
Those who love God remember Him all the time and take every step of their life while realizing His divine presence. They obey the True Master. They listen to the saints and act upon their words. They are always keen to follow the saints. They never usurp the rights of others. They spend every moment of their life, every day, week and month, to make it beautiful and useful. They are always keen to seek the company of saints and concentrate on the Almighty Nirankar. Generally, when a person is transferred from one place to another, he counts the advantages in terms of allowances. The devotees, on the other hand, think in terms of Satsang or the company of saints. It is not that they do not want a promotion or material benefits. They do need the same, but their preference goes to Satsang, the company of saints. And such feelings always promote their welfare and the welfare of others.”
