With the
grace of Almighty Nirankar and the Blessings of His Holiness
Satguru Baba Hardev Singh Ji, Sydney saints under the guidance
of President Chanbir Singh Ji and the other committee members
started the selfless service of food preparation for the
homeless. This began in June 2007 on a bi-monthly basis. Since
then Sydney Saints have continued their efforts of selfless
service of mankind with enthusiasm as per Baba Ji's teachings.
In January 2009 these saints began the selfless service of food
distribution for the homeless, so each month alternates between
food preparation and food distribution.
Keeping up with this practice the saints of Sant
Nirankari Mission, Sydney carried out the sewa of serving food
to homeless people on night of 14 March 2009.
All the saints assembled at 7:30 at the Just
Enough Faith campus at Rozelle. They helped along with other
volunteers in loading the van with the food trays.
At about 8:00 pm the saints
reached city centre and arranged all the food supplies on the
serving tables along with other volunteers of Just Enough Faith.
Once food was properly laid out, the volunteers of the mission
served it to assembled brothers and sisters.
As the volunteers started to serve food, heavy
storm wind and rains lashed the city. However the volunteers
stood together with the homeless and kept themselves engaged in
distributing the food to our homeless brothers and sisters.
The volunteers did not care about getting wet,
but rather were worried that those being served could be
protected from the rain and eat food without worry of rain.
Volunteers of the mission were seen giving plastic bags to their
brothers and sisters to help them cover their food. Many of the
volunteers removed their disposable ponchos and gave it to the
needy to help them face the wet weather effectively.
After the food distribution was complete empty
trays and tables were packed back into the vans and the
volunteers accompanied the van back to Just Enough Faith
premises in Rozelle. On reaching Rozelle, they helped in
unloading the van of the empty food trays.
This sewa is part of the
efforts to serve the whole humanity that is being taught and
practiced by our Satguru His Holiness Hardev Singh Ji. His
teachings in this regard are nicely summed up in one line:
“Service of Mankind is Service of God”
