On Sunday, May 31 2009, youth of the Sant Nirankari Mission Toronto participated in the Walk for Values for the 3rd consecutive year. The Walk for Values is an event that raises awareness for human values. The walk is not a fund raising event since no monetary amount is being pledged, but rather helps to make the world richer and healthier by making a pledge to practice values. The walk unites thousands of people from different organizations and faith groups, that all believe in positive human values.

Although the weather was a bit chilly, spirits were high and the enthusiasm was outstanding. As children, teens, adults and even elders participated in this walk, it became an extremely uplifting experience. The Mission’s message was conveyed through not only our T-shirts, but posters and our loud chants of peaceful messages such as, “Our mission is: Universal Brotherhood” and “God is: ONE.” These sayings were used to convey the message His Holiness teaches, to unite as one and become good human beings. The chant echoed through our group but the hymns were definitely carried on by the different organizations that walked alongside us. It came to a point where members of other communities were approaching us and asking about the Mission and acknowledged that we believe in the same Truth; that good values should be upheld by all human beings. It was an inspiration to have unity amongst the groups.

Furthermore, various TV networks had taken interest in our group since we stood out so much. In addition, we had a local Reverend, Father Gallaghar, approach us and read out one of our signs that had caught his eye, “Religion Unites, Never Divides.” He had continued saying, “Religion needs to unite, and for religions to do so they need to have dialect.”
As the morale was definitely high throughout the morning it made for an overall wonderful walk. Positive human values should not have to be shown only on this day but they should always be prevalent in our day to day living and become natural to us. As His Holiness, Satguru Baba Ji has said, “Peace, Not Pieces, Lets Work for it.” The walk supported Sant Nirankari Mission’s continued effort to remove the darkness of ignorance spread in the world by walking and working for peace, love and unity.
