Sant Nirankari Mission has been
holding congregations in Tihar Jail, Delhi from time to time
for the spiritual well being of the inmates. On ladies’
side, such congregations are organized by Mrs. Primal
Singh. During one of such congregations, she distributed
some copies of Sampuran Avtar Bani, Geet Books and other
literature. A woman inmate of the jail, however, pointed
out that she could not read the same because of weak
eye-sight.
Incidentally, Mrs. Primal Singh
mentioned this to Pujya Mata Sawinder Ji, the gracious
spouse of His Holiness Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj. This
served as an immediate clue to give her the idea that an eye
check-up camp may be organized to help all such inmates of
the jail who had eye problems. Subsequently, she decided
to help those suffering from anaemia also.
Accordingly, for the first time in the
history of the Sant Nirankari Mission, its Medical and
Social Welfare Department organized a Medical Camp in Jail
No. 6 for ladies in Tihar Jail, on April 2, 2009. The camp
consisted of eye check up and anaemia check up both.
A team of qualified doctors and para-medical
staff led by Brig. (Retd.) P.S. Cheema, Executive Member in
the department examined 355 women inmates for eye check up
as also anaemia. The department provided free spectacles to
297 of them. Those found suffering from anaemia were given
free medicines.
Pujya Mata Sawinder Ji accompanied by
holy daughter Sudiksha Ji visited the camp and blessed the
patients as well as the organizers. Later, they visited
the crèche in the jail also and took keen interest in the
way the authorities were looking after children. Pujya Mata
Ji, however, found some children having eye problems. So,
she got the eyes of more than 25 children checked up in the
ongoing camp.
Then, the Superintendent of Jail, Smt.
Swatantar Pahwa took Pujya Mata Ji and Sudiksha Ji round the
embroidery centre attached to the jail. Pujya Mata Ji
appreciated its working as a welfare gesture. Pujya Mata Ji
also saw the candle making unit in the jail.
Earlier, Smt. Swatantar Pahwa
inaugurated the medical camp and said that it was for the
first time that such a camp was organized in the Ladies
Jail.
