With the benign
blessings of Satguru Baba Hardev Singh Ji, the first SNM
UK National Music event took place at London Bhawan on
Saturday the 28th of June 2009. The event entitled
‘Divine Melodies’ was an evening where devotees from
across the United Kingdom gathered to collectively sing
the praises of this Almighty Nirankar.
An ambience was created
around the Bhawan with special lighting, decorations and
sound equipment which set the mood for the inspirational
night. The event was hosted by brother Sudhir Kundi and
sister Simran Kaur, who provided regular skits that
interlinked each song.
The evening combined a
variety of musical genres. Bhajans were sung by Amarjeet
Daudhar Ji & Party (Oxford), Vibhati Bhatia (West
Midlands) and Sudarshan Iyer Ji (London). An uplifting
Punjabi folk style song was presented by Vishal Teji Ji
& Party (Bedford) and a couple of items, one of which
was a Qwali, was shared by Pushpinder Sidhu Ji and party
(London). English hymns from sister Renuka Jhalli Ji
(London), the Bhabha Sisters (Leicester) and the London
Youth Choir provided the evening with Western influences
of music.
The evening was an
interactive one as the words of each song as well as the
meaning of the song was shown on an overhead projector
screen, encouraging the gathering to participate in the
event.
The final bhajan of the
evening, which was performed by brothers Jas Sehbat,
Sumeet Siddle & Party, was Ardas Karde Haan. Eastern
instruments such as Harmoniums, Tablas and Dholki and
Western instruments such as Piano, Guitar and Saxophone
combined as a fitting finale to this evening.
The event was concluded
by Professor Dev Raj Ji who shared that we are so
fortunate to enjoy such a diversity of music because we
are all accepted into this universal family and that
such events are only possible when devotees work
together to spread Baba Ji’s message of love and
humanity. Rev. Dev Raj Ji also welcomed Rev. Sandeep
Khinda and Holy sister Samta Ji who graced the event and
thanked the local coordinators, local London committee,
National Social And Welfare Team and Rev. Mahesher Singh
Bhumbra, Executive In-charge of Social Welfare for their
collective efforts in making this an evening to
remember.
