With the blessings of
His Holiness Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj, on Saturday 9th May
2009, the SNM Yorkshire volunteers, in collaboration
with the Geetanjali multilingual poetry society,
organized an evening of live poetry recitals. The event
was orchestrated around the quote by His Holiness:
“Kuch Bhi Bano Mubarak
Hai, Par Pehle Bas Insaan Bano”
''Become whatever you aspire to be, but first become a
human being''.
The open-invite event
was a huge success. Saints and invited guests, from
various backgrounds and religious denominations, made up
over 250 attendees filling the bhawan hall. This
included dignitaries such as Mr Anant Kumar from the
office of the High Commissioner of India, London, and Mr
Jarnail Ram President of Guru Ravidas Bhawan, Bradford.

Saints, along with
friends, family and guests from all over the U.K.,
(including London, Birmingham and Glasgow) attended and
experienced an evening with a difference.
Around the nominated
theme of His Holiness’ message of Universal Brotherhood
through the Fatherhood of God, the members from
Geetanjali, the local congregation and poets from the
local community eloquently recited such deep and
thoughtful poetry, and set the audience for an
enchanting and blissful evening of live poetry to stir
and uplift the soul in praise of this Almighty Nirankar.
The programme was
presided over by Rev H.S. Upashak Ji from whom a final
discourse was delivered; he travelled especially from
Birmingham along with the other guests.

In his discourse, he
explained that religion is not just performing few
rituals but it is a way of living. We must practice the
teachings of all our prophets in our life which must be
reflected through our character. People want to reform
others rather than reform themselves. It has always been
taught, in all the Holy Scriptures, that man should
first become human. This is only possible when we seek
knowledge from a true master and fulfil the purpose of
our life. When we start seeing this Almighty God in
every human being, we’ll all become human.

Rev Jawahar Singh ji
(local parmukh), thanked all those who attended the
event; making it a most memorable and soul-lifting
evening. All who attended, thoroughly enjoyed the
spiritual poetry evening; which acted as a bridge
between the local communities. He agreed that as long as
we praise Him (Nirankar), there is no room for divisions
or animosity amongst the different religious sects; as
we are all children of the One Father.

The programme was
concluded with a short presentation in which all
participants were awarded with trophies. It was
followed by a community meal where the poetry and love
generated from the evening brought the audience even
closer, uniting to further glorify and praise the One
God.
The whole assembly was
spiritually enriching, being a working example of the
type of people that His Holiness today is seeking to
create. People who aspire to live to the teachings of
humanity as this is the one and only religion which is
universal and can bring the whole world together.
