With the blessings of His Holiness Baba Hardev Singh Ji
Maharaj “Adopt a Road” project was started many years ago by
Sant Nirankari Mission in Sydney, Australia and with
approval from the local government authority, the Blacktown
City Council. As part of the project, a 3.5 km length
section of Richmond Road starting from Rooty Hill Road
North’s intersection to Garfield Road’s intersection which
is the main road either side of the Bhawan, is cleaned every
three monthly interval. On Saturday 18th September 2010,
this year’s third quarterly round of road cleanup was
undertaken. Mission’s Devotees of all ages arrived at the
Sant Nirankari Bhawan, Marsden Park, Sydney around 8:00
am to participate in the cleanup.
Rev Ravi Kakkar coordinated the service and split the
devotees into teams. A safety briefing was given before the
teams left for the cleanup. Each team was provided with cleaning
equipment and rubbish bags supplied by the local Blacktown
Council. Devotees took about four hours to collect all
rubbish from the road side and bagged it ready for pick up by
the Council garbage trucks. On completion of the project all
Saints expressed their thanks to Almighty Nirankar and His
Holiness Satguru Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj for blessing them
with this service. The “Adopt a Road” project is instrumental in
creating a clean neighbourhood and community involvement. It
provides peace and happiness to devotees carrying out this
service with an attitude of devotion, selfless service and
submission to the Almighty Nirankar and His Holiness.
The Sydney SNM has received numerous awards and notes of
appreciation from the Black town City Council for undertaking
the “Adopt a Road” project and serving the community. Saints who
could not physically take up the road cleanup due to health or
other issues encouraged the other participating saints and
engaged in serving them with tea, water and other condiments.
Overall it was a very happy, enjoyable and peaceful experience
for all saints.
