West Midlands Satsang Bhawan hosted the 2010 National
Blood Donation Camp on Sunday 26th September in remembrance
of the lives and sacrifices of all saints and sages
including the supreme sacrifice of Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji.
Unlike previous blood donation drives, this event proved
extra special as for the first time in European history, the
National Blood Donation Camp was held in conjunction with
the weekly Congregation, providing an even greater spiritual
atmosphere intertwined with a united desire to selflessly
serve humanity.
This auspicious day was organised through the grace and
blessings of His Holiness Baba Hardev Singh Ji Maharaj, by
Rev Mahesher Singh Bhumbra (Executive Member In Charge
Social Welfare) with the support of the national Social
Welfare Advisory Team. This event proved hugely successful
with sewadal volunteers travelling from across all regions
of the country including Yorkshire and Glasgow, West London,
Oxford, East Midlands, West Midlands and East London.
The enthusiasm of all saints to fulfil Baba Ji’s vision
that “blood is to flow in veins and not in drains”, was
clearly visible through over 100 saints travelling many
hours and hundreds of miles to give their blood for the
benefit of humanity, truly illustrating that saints are
forever ready to selflessly serve in order to fulfil Baba
Ji’s wish. Unfortunately, due to stringent National Blood
Service regulations and technical issues, only one mobile
blood vehicle was available, constraining receipt to 35
successful donations.
The joyous nature of all in attendance was visible in the
words, spirit and action of all those saints that donated,
were unable to donate and in the numerous local West
Midland’s sewadal who worked tireless and selfless to
provide continuous refreshments and a community meal (langar)
throughout the day.
The support and dedication of the National Blood Service
was also truly inspirational and hugely appreciated.
Margaret Littlefair from the National Blood Service Donor
support team, expressed her gratitude to the Sant Nirankari
Mission for the calm, loving and pleasant way in which the
event was managed and commented on her surprise at how
professionally the event was managed by volunteers.
