Guru Pooja Divas celebrations,
commenced on the morning of the 23rd February 2008 in the West
Midlands with a Fun Run which took place to support local charities. The spirit
of Guru Pooja is of course to practice the deep rooted message of His Holiness
Baba ji to serve the mankind. Over 100 young and old people participated and
really created a wonderful start to the weekend festivities.
Good health is so important to
offer oneself for voluntary service, as instructed by His Holiness Baba Ji and
so free health checks had been organised pursuant to the run. Everyone took part
and devotees were able to consider advice given by specialist health
practitioners in order for them to be ready to serve selflessly. Children were
then invited to play games including volleyball and football during the course
of the day until the evening which were thoroughly enjoyed.
The highlight of this day was a
Sufiana Musical Evening that had been organised in Wednesbury. Local Artists
including Anjuman Ji, Jaswinder Jass, Sukhjinder Sokla to name a few, performed
wonderful Bhajans which had been provided by Rev. Upashak Ji. They were new
compositions of the Mission’s Songs which really uplifted all the listening
devotees. The artists felt blessed by the fact that they had been given this
opportunity to perform such songs for the Sadh Sangat on the occasion of Guru
Pooja. All the artists were honoured before the close of the programme with
medals and gifts bearing the message of Baba ji, “Peace not Pieces, let’s work
for it.”
Prior to the presentations a DVD
entitled eternal truth was also shown to all the gathered audience
illustrating the noble work of the Mission. An anthology to mark Guru Pooja, was
also presented to Bhupinder Anand ji Executive Member in Charge for Media which
was warmly received.
The evening closed with a
vegetarian meal being served.
The Guru Pooja Celebrations
continued into the 24th February and a Regional Samagam was held
concluding with a Sewa Dal Rally. Most importantly to grace this occasion The
Right Reverend Bishop Ria of Jerusalem graced the occasion and talked of his
work in the Holy Land. The Bishop shared his thoughts with the congregation and
advised of his efforts to progress Peace in the Middle East. He was accompanied
by Dr David Earle of the Peace Federation who explained that he was in the
congregation because of the Love which he receives from all the members of the
Mission. The Right Reverend was also honoured by the Mission for his World Peace
making efforts as was Dr Earle by Lord King of West Bromwich and Neena Gill MEP
respectively.
There were numerous wonderful and
engaging performances including, Jyoti Rassia, Youth Choir, Sadhu Ram ji and
Party, Vishu Singh together with a Poetic Symposium enriching the Satsang
further.
In all it has been a wonderful
occasion and we take away the message that the Guru Pooja is not only about
talking about the message of the Guru, but actually becoming a practitioner of
his knowledge.
