Football Tournament to On Saturday 29th March 2008 Sandwell Confederation of Indians together with the Hindu Cultural Resource Centre and Sant Nirankari Mission jointly organised a 6-a-side Community Cohesion Football tournament at Hadley Stadium in Sandwell. The organisers were also provided by full co-operation from Sandwell Partnership. The aim of the tournament was to promote community cohesion through sports by encouraging people of different faith groups, cultures and denominations in Sandwell to interact with one another. There was equal representation including teams from The Sikh Community, White British, Muslim Community, Yemeni Community, Hindu Community, Bangladeshi and Afro-Caribbean Communities amongst others Despite the poor weather, it did not affect anyones spirits as the players appeared at 10am in the morning. The Sant Nirankari Mission was represented by two teams. Everyone was having fun, enjoying the day and meeting with each other, as well as participating in a competitive tournament. All the teams had a chance to play with one another which led into the Semi Finals and thereafter Finals. The Real West Brom FC won the tournament and were awarded trophies from Lord King of West Bromwich. HS Bhatia Secretary of the Sant Nirankari Mission thanked all for attending and re-enforced the message of the Mission, that be it any forum or sector, promoting Unity of Mankind is the underlining purpose of all our initiatives. If we can Play together we should also be able to Pray together. Army Officials are to be thanked for providing referee services and over £100 was also raised for the Mayor of Sandwell’s Charity. * * * * * * * |
