Rain or Shine: Toronto Sports Day Excels

On Saturday September 13, 2008 numerous saints attended the Sports Day scheduled at the Satsang Bhawan, in Toronto. To get into the spirit of Sports Day the saints decorated the Bhawan with colorful flags. In the morning, saints started the day off in the remembrance of God by participating in Sangat for an hour. The remainder of the day offered saints a chance to come together to play various activities such as soccer, volleyball, tug of war, Jalebi race, kids races, musical chairs, and the latest addition to the games – Bhangra freeze. This newest addition was requested by one of the youth members of the Sangat suggesting he wanted to dance during the games. During lunch, the clouds had started to move in but the saints were not deterred. After lunch whether rain or shine the saints were eager to keep on track with the activities planned.

The soccer game commenced after lunch and during the game everyone was encouraged to work as a team and stay united by passing the ball frequently. The day was ended off with a boy’s volleyball tournament.  In particular, the boys volleyball game was faced with rain but saints continued to play for hours. The boys were encouraged and enthusiastic regardless of the weather conditions. This reminds us that in every situation we have to adapt and be positive in order to fully enjoy the present moment and reap the rewards. This was a great learning experience as many of the youth participated in large numbers. In the world we see sports as a competitive environment whereby others gain advantage and only think for themselves rather then putting others before them. However, saints during the day constantly displayed acts of kindness and selflessness. Moving forward this is an opportunity for us to excel in teamwork, cooperation, and unity within our congregation and the world as per the wishes of His Holiness.
