07.03.09 - SNM Oxford Branch assist Oxclean

Last year, an inaugural event took place in 2008. An initiative to clean the streets of Oxford was organised by the Oxford Civic Society and supported by the City Council. This was a great success and made considerable inroads into the litter and rubbish lying and blowing around Oxford and importantly, heightened public awareness of the problem.

This year, the Oxclean spring clean event 2009 took place on Friday the 6th and Saturday the 7th of March 2009. The Sant Nirankari Mission Oxford branch was represented in the Horspath area litter pick by Rev. Harbhajan Dass Tura, Rev. Lachman Singh Daudhar, who is a local resident of the area along with Rev. Balwinder Singh and Rev. Shobhi Ji.

The event attracted local papers, businesses, over a hundred local community groups and schools who registered and turned out to litter pick for up to two hours in a location of their choice.

As we learn in the mission that humanity is mans true religion, the volunteers showed that young or old by doing selfless service for the local community, we are showing compassion and humanity.

This made a good impression in the hearts and minds of those that had never heard of the Mission , forging local ties with fellow residents and neighbours who appreciated the volunteers efforts as the community clean up was under supported.

By putting words into actions and living up to the motto of ‘love thy neighbour as thyself’ and the quote "do not ask the Lord to guide your footsteps, if you are not willing to move your feet”, the Mission efforts were appreciated by all who took part.
